This tour will provide a view of areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.  Over three years have passed and recovery efforts are still very far from complete.  Buses will tour the Lower Ninth Ward of Orleans Parish, an area flooded by Gulf of Mexico storm surge as a result of levee failure along the adjacent Industrial Canal.  The tour will include the nearby City of Chalmette and other portions of St. Bernard Parish. Most of these areas were inundated by storm surge with depths of  twenty feet or higher.  Tour participants will also view past hurricane damage along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. NRCS employees from Louisiana and Mississippi will discuss the role the agency played in recovery through the agency’s Emergency Watershed Protection Program.
