This tour will focus on major water control structures of the lower Mississippi River. The mighty River at one time served as an asset to the coastal marshes of Louisiana, but also posed an annual flooding threat to much of southeast LA, including New Orleans. This tour will demonstrate how man controls the waters of the River to benefit and protect the area. Employees from the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration will serve as tour guides for the Davis Pond Freshwater Diversion Project and employees from the US Army Corps of Engineers will discuss the operations of the Bonnet Carre Spillway.
