NACD CONGRATULATES LINCOLN ON NEW POST
AS SENATE AGRICULTURE COMMITTEE CHAIR

NACD President Steve Robinson, a producer from Marysville, Ohio, today issued the following statement following the announcement of Senator Blanche Lincoln as the new Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—September 9, 2009—“Today Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas was named Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee. On behalf of the National Association of Conservation Districts, I congratulate Senator Lincoln on her new post.

“Senator Lincoln has served on the Committee since she was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1998. She is strong advocate for agriculture in the Senate.  She possesses a vast knowledge of the issues surrounding rural America and understands the challenges and opportunities facing today’s landowners.

“NACD and conservation districts are eager to continue to work with Chairman Lincoln and the rest of the Committee to support and strengthen locally-led conservation efforts all across the nation and to ensure conservation districts and their customers have the resources needed to make wise use of natural resources.

“Finally, I would like to thank former Chairman Harkin for his many years of service and leadership on the Senate Agriculture Committee. He has truly been a champion for conservation and has worked to secure funding for new conservation programs. We look forward to continuing our work with Senator Harkin as a member of the Agriculture Committee.”
